What Is the Shaded Brow?

While microblading is meant to tattoo full strokes into the line of the eyebrows, microshading simply targets the areas that need it most. It does not try to create the illusion of individual hairs but simply shades sparse areas in order to make them appear more full. This can be incredibly useful for patients in Franklin Park, IL, who have a few areas of their brow that may not be as dense as they would like. Dr. Myriam Yokana and her talented team at Modern Day MedSpa are highly experienced in utilizing this procedure in order to help men and women reach their aesthetic goals.

How Does the Shaded Brow Work?

To begin, our staff will measure your face and discuss your goals in order to determine the proper eyebrow shape for you. Once an agreement has been reached, we will draw out the desired shape onto the eyebrows and remove any excess hair. We will match the pigment to the exact color of your eyebrows to ensure the results look completely natural and consistent. At this point, we will use a fine needle as we shade the eyebrows to look exactly how you've always wanted them. The procedure itself can typically last about two hours. Though your eyebrows will appear much darker at first, they will continue to lighten in the coming days and weeks.

Usually, we'll recommend for patients to return after about eight weeks in order for us to get a better look at your results and perfect anything that may need to be altered. This session is much shorter than the first, typically lasting an hour at most. Patients can expect for results of microshading to last anywhere from 1 – 3 years, though touch-up appointments can further extend these outcomes.

Microshading FAQ

What is the difference between microshading and microblading?

Microshading fills in sparse areas of the eyebrows to look fuller using tiny dots made with a needle. Microblading uses a blade-shaped needle to make long, hair-like strokes to define and fill the eyebrows.

Does microshading hurt?

Everyone has different tolerances for discomfort, but most patients don't find a microshading procedure uncomfortable. Microshading only targets a small area, whereas microblading targets a larger area with larger strokes. This means that microshading can often be more comfortable. Before we begin, we can also apply a topical numbing cream to help keep you comfortable.

How long does a microshading procedure take?

An initial microshading procedure is usually about two hours. A touch-up procedure is shorter, often only about an hour.

How long does microshading last?

Most patients can expect their results to last 1 – 3 years before a maintenance procedure may be recommended.
